Turbo-Kits.com Turbo Kit FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a bolt on turbo kit?
A: A turbo kit made specifically for the application listed. It will include all of the parts you need to be up and running turbo. In many cases, the turbo kits sold are designed to be installed on a car that didn't come factory with a turbo. Therefore, slight modifications or adjustments may be required to get the fitment perfect. It's a tight fit in there :)
Q: Is there a kit available for my car?
A: All the kits available are listed on the menu to the left. If the kit is not listed you can e-mail us and we can let you know.

Q: What is included in the kit?
A: Everything you see listed is included. This is the most up to date information we have from our suppliers. On occasion, the supplier may chose to alter the kit or substitute a part with another part of equal or better quality.
Q: Do the pictures represent the actual product?
A: In most cases the pictures do represent what is being purchased. However, some of the pictures are stock photos and do not represent the actual product being shipped. The list next to the product picture is the best way to find out what comes in the kit. If you have any specific questions. Feel free to contact us.
Q: How much horsepower will I gain?
A: If installed properly most kits will add an additional 40-60% horsepower on a stock engine. We do sell higher HP kits made for modified engine's as well.
Q: How much boost can the kits handle?
A: Most kits are designed to run between 6-8 PSI of boost on a stock engine; however, most kits are capable of supporting more. The turbo efficiency shows the maximum amount of HP the turbo kit can flow provided you have the proper fuel management and a properly built motor.
Q: How long does it take to install?
A: Depending on your experience. Most kits take around 8-12 hours for installation.
Q: How do I get in contact with Turbo Kits.com?
A: We can be reached at (860) 676-2929 or at sales@turbo-kits.com.
Q: How long does it take to get my kit?

A: Yes! Most kits purchased directly from us come with a parts warranty. See the "Warranty" section next to the specific kit you are interested in for more info.
Q: Can I purchase individual items from Turbo Kits.com?
A: Yes! We sell main kit components such as: Turbos, Manifolds, Downpipes, Injectors, ECUs & Intercoolers. Not available on all kits.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept all forms of payment personal checks, money orders, cashiers checks, paypal (shipping only to verified Paypal address). As well as all major credit cards.
Q: Are the kits in stock?

Q: Are the kits brand new?
A: Yes, all kits are brand new.
Q: What shipping method is used?
A: Most kits are shipped directly from the manufacturer using FEDEX or UPS (DHL and other international shipping companies are used by some manufacturers).
Q: What is the difference between HP gain and Turbo effiency?
A: HP Gain: What you will gain safely on the stock engine. Turbo Efficiency: The maximum the turbo unit itself can produce.
Q: Will this kit work on my car? I have the same engine but a different year / bodystyle.
A: If you have the same engine code, the kit should bolt to your engine. However, Turbo Kits.com cannot guarantee that it will bolt right on to your bodystyle. You may need to do some custom work / tuning to get it to fit.
Q: Turbo cars are very fast, but only for 15 second spurts (1/4 mile) and then have to cool until the next run?
A: If the system is properly designed there shouldn't be any problems that only allow you to run 15 second spurts. The phenomenon described here is an inadequate cooling system that cannot dissipate the heat produced by sustained high peak cylinder pressures. Maybe the cooling system has too many miles on it. But the other likely scenario is that a lean condition that produces Higher Than Allowable EGT, coupled with high BMEP (Brake Mean Effective Pressure) in the cylinder overwhelm the system. If the Air/Fuel ratio is correct for the application, turbo stochiometric, then perhaps there wouldn't be excessively high EGT's. w/ the air/fuel ratio correct and a stable EGT, there should be no problems with a properly working cooling system.
Q: There is no such thing as a daily driven turbo?
A: Try telling that to those that own turbo kits and run 8+ psi daily, on the stock bottom end for years, trouble free. If detonation is eliminated there is nothing to say that your engine will not survive higher than intended cylinder pressures. Whether it is turbocharged, normally aspirated or supercharged. Cylinder pressure is cylinder pressure, detonate the same engine, when turbocharged, supercharged or normally aspirated, and the result will be the same. Don't let someone in sales tell you otherwise, ask an engineer or a professor.
Q: When driving a turbo car, you cannot downshift b/c it will hurt the engine?
A: False. 3000 RPM is 3000 RPM, in any gear engine speed is engine speed, but what does change is the load, the load is entirely different based on the gearing and the velocity of the car, aerodynamic load increases in factor as velocity increases. The load is actually harder on the engine at 2000 RPM 5th gear 30 MPH than at 6000 RPM 2nd gear 30 MPH. Try these combinations some time, and listen to how hard an engine is working. Given that you don't over rev the engine, have the proper air/fuel ratio and the abscence of detonation, there's no reason why the engine will grenade, unless the load and cylinder pressure exceed the mechanical limits of the engines components.
Q: What are the possible causes of oil leaking from my Turbocharger?
A: There can be many reasons. The first step is to rule out any possibilities before sending the turbo out for repair. All of the following items need to be accounted for to ensure proper operation. If the below items all check out please contact us to have your turbo rebuilt or replaced.
-3AN or -4AN (1/8”) maximum oil inlet line
-10AN (1/2”) minimum oil drain line
Orientation of oil inlet on bearing housing must not be greater than 15° from vertical.
No 90° turns or kinks in drain line
The use of silicone at or around all oil holes should be avoided at all times due to possible constriction of the holes due to silicone impeding oil flow when the silicone is applied and torqued to flange surfaces
Oil line needs to make smooth transition into oil pan (no 90° fittings on pan)
Oil drain needs to be placed as high as possible on oil pan (above the oil level)
Hole in oil pan must match the oil drain line size
If oil drain is located next to crankshaft main journal, then possible crank windage may occur (oil being thrown towards oil drain hole)
Adequate crankcase ventilation
No vacuum can be placed on the compressor inlet of the turbocharger unless turbocharger has a carbon seal installed
Clean air filter
Turbocharger must be mounted above the level of the oil pan so that oil can flow freely to the oil pan by gravity alone
If the turbocharger is mounted below the top of the oil pan then a scavenging system must be implemented
Excessively high oil pressure at idle may cause oil leakage and/or smoking at idle or deceleration
Upon cold startup the use of heavy weight oil may cause smoking and/or leakage until oil temp increases to proper operating range
